Myer's Poem
by William Moses Samuel Myers

GOD’S GOODNESS

As I arose very early today
And cast my eyes on a beautiful sun
I thanked the Lord for that Heavenly way
And for all the strength He gives me to run.

My morning’s prayer was not ended there:
It was a supplication just begun;
For all of life’s burdens, my father doth share
Through Heaven’s Royal Gift and Mary’s Son.

I tried to count all the many blessings
Which God had graciously granted me;
Finally I found myself confessing
That I know not the number it could be.

Yesterday God opened my sleeping eyes
And raised my weak and restless back upright;
He moved my tiresome feet so I could rise
And walk around from morn until last night.

God moved my hands so I could dress
And bent my knees that I might bow to pray;
In everything I found that I was blest
And had been abundantly so each day.

God moved my feet, giving power to walk;
He stopped me where I sat down and ate
He gave me utterance so I could talk
About a Father who is good and great.

God went with me to my place of work
He gave me energy, vigor and vim.
When I became week, my Lord did not shirk
But he shared my burdens and I thank him.

God stayed with me the whole day through
And returned to me my home with me last night
All this He did, a friend ever true.
Then gave me power to turn out the light.
